Abodo’s Vulcan timber is increasingly being used for timber windows and doors.
A lightweight and fine finishing timber, Abodo Vulcan is made from thermally modified radiata pine for enhanced stability and performance, and is available in flatsawn or our patented laminated vertical grain options.
Why Choose Vulcan Timber?
Super stable:
Vulcan timber is thermally modified (treated with heat and steam rather than chemicals), which means Vulcan Joinery has enhanced stability, reduced resin content, and is naturally durable so does not require any chemical preservatives.
These characteristics ensure no cupping or warping in exterior and interior applications.
Super sustainable:
Vulcan is made from FSC® certified, New Zealand radiata pine. A rapidly renewable timber, it’s an ideal replacement for old growth species such as Rosewood, Meranti and Western Red Cedar. Vulcan Joinery timber is Environmental Product Declaration and Declare Red List Free certified, making it a safe choice for interiors, and suitable for passive house and climate-conscious designs.
Additionally, Vulcan is verified to store more carbon than is used in its production, with each square metre of Vulcan timber storing 7.56kg+ of carbon – download Abodo’s Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) and read more here.
Superior performance:
Vulcan is a harder (higher density) timber than Western Red Cedar and is increasingly finding use as exterior entrance doors. With a Durability Class 1 (EN350-1), Vulcan is designed to last and has excellent natural resistance to decay.
A lightweight timber, its superior thermal conductivity of ~0.095 W/(mK) (EN12667) is a distinct advantage for those designing passive houses and other high-performance buildings.
